Day 4 – Seatoller to Grasmere – 8 miles

Another easy day today 😱.

We had a late start with a full breakfast and then went to catch a bus from our hotel at Derwent Water back to Seatoller.

It was advertised by Dean as an easy day with one steady climb!

However, the reality was a long, hard climb up a valley to the top of a hill called Greenup Edge. The first part was tiring but not too complicated, made worse by the heat and the fact that Julie and I are suffering from tight thigh muscles and it takes a while to get them going again.

But the second part made our hearts sink into our boots. It looked like a repeat of Hay stacks. Phil abandoned us and made good headway without us. Dean, Julie and I set out more cautiously, but got to the false top slowly. However, Phil had already continued to the top of Greenup and we had to join him after a short break.

After a well deserved rest, we headed over the top and tried to follow a meandering path, which seemed to disappear in places, down the valley to Grasmere.

It was a relief to get to the hotel and be able to rest, drink and eat.

We’ve decided on 7am start tomorrow because of the heat, so Dean and Phil took a walk to the shops for food for tomorrow.
