Day 7 – Shap to Kirkby Stephen – 19.5 miles

Today we’re back to four, as Dean has decided he is well enough to continue on 😁.

We received lunch packs from the Kings Arms in lieu of breakfast and to judge from the sandwich, the breakfast wouldn’t have been up to much!!

We decided to set off at 7am as it’s a long walk and will still be a tough day, despite there being less climbing.

The route started off by going over a train line, the m6 and past a concrete factory. But we did find an honesty box and even an honesty cafe, where we got a very welcome cuppa 😁.

There wasn’t particularly anything to look at of note today. It was pleasant rolling hills with clumps of stone and lots of grass.

We eventually arrived at Kirkby Stephen feeling quite good until the last mile, when all the aches and pains seem to catch up with you from the day!

When we arrived at the hotel, we had a lovely surprise waiting for us. Marilyn and Sharon!! We were so surprised we didn’t even recognise them for a minute 😁. They had driven up for 3 1/2 hours to give us a boost of encouragement and it was absolutely amazing. We decided to go out for dinner together, a nice curry and had a great evening together.

Thanks Marilyn and Sharon for coming to see us 😁😁

  1. We really enjoyed it! Tracked your route today, we think we saw you up on nine standards around 10.45-11 ish – not sure, it was a group of 4 looking like you lot but too far away, even with bins, to be sure. Found the waterfall then your “plastic” yurt before coming home down M1. Home around 5pm. Sharon
